Dental Exams and Cleanings

Cleanings Two Times Per Year

Most of us know that in order to maintain total health, good oral health is essential. There is an increasing amount of literature and scientific research showing the link between oral and overall health. Routine dental checkups are vital to good oral hygiene and are the best way to detect problems at their earliest stages. Early detection and treatment saves unnecessary discomfort, time and money.

Exams and Checkups

Regular exams/checkups allow Dr. Affleck to monitor the health of your teeth, treat problems, and even detect problems before they start or get worse. Our standard dental exam involves checking for dental problems that can range from cavities, gum disease, and tooth root decay to broken teeth, enamel erosion, and bite problems like TMD. Our dental hygienist will give you a professional dental cleaning to remove plaque or tartar buildup. And finally, Dr Affleck will design a dental treatment plan for you based on what he finds during your dental exam.

Oral Hygiene and Preventive Care

Good oral hygiene and regular dental examinations are essential in the prevention and early detection of problems such as gum disease, tooth loss and tooth decay. Affleck Dental provides thorough cleanings with x-rays for all patients. Dental x-rays are pictures of the teeth, bones and soft tissues which are taken to help us find and diagnose any possible problems with your teeth, mouth and jaw.

Fillings and Root Canals

Fillings

A filling repairs and restores the damaged surface of a tooth. Fillings can eliminate decay, fracture, and wear. A dental filling strengthens the tooth. If tooth decay is not repaired at its early stages, it will worsen. Consequently, additional or alternative dental treatments may be necessary. With proper care and routine oral hygiene, a filling has a lifespan of 5 to 12 years, depending on the type of filling material.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Made of a complex composite resin, tooth-colored restorations bond to your teeth. They feel, look and function like your natural teeth.

“White fillings” are becoming more and more mainstream. As technology progresses, these composite resin fillings are now just as durable and functional as amalgam (silver) fillings, even in back teeth.

They offer the added benefits of bonding to tooth structure for more strength, and by the very nature that they are tooth-colored, they look like your tooth! Although there are certain circumstances where amalgam fillings are necessary, the vast majority of filling situations can be easily and predictably treated with these state-of-the-art, cosmetic solutions.

Root Canals

An endodontic treatment, also known as a “root canal,” saves severely injured, cracked, or decayed teeth when inflammation or infection damages their pulp (the soft inner tissue inside a tooth’s root canal.) This leads to pain or tooth abscess if it is not treated promptly. Endodontists complete root canal treatments in only one or two office visits, depending on the presence of infection and the required treatment plan. After restoration, the tooth continues to function like any other tooth. As a result, the restored tooth has the potential to last a lifetime. Dr. Affleck refers his patients with root canal needs to local and trusted endodontists.

Crowns, Veneers and Bridges

Dental Crowns

Crowns are full coverage restorations that are used to cover a tooth that is likely to break, or is too broken down to be restored with a filling. They are most commonly done after root canal treatment, or when a large filling wears out. The larger the hole made by a cavity, the more likely a crown will be needed. Keep in mind that the jaw muscles are the strongest in the human body. Teeth are subjected to tremendous pressures. Crowns ride over the weakened tooth, providing strength and protecting the tooth against breakage. Gold, porcelain/metal combination, and all-porcelain crowns can be chosen. All have their pros and cons and advantages in certain situations. The most common choice is either porcelain with metal or all-porcelain crowns, mainly for cosmetic reasons. It generally takes two appointments to restore a tooth with a crown. We provide a temporary crown that can be worn between appointments.

Veneers

Veneers are very thin porcelain shells, designed specifically for each patient in regards to color, shape, texture, alignment and character. They are custom-made
to fit you specifically with the best materials available.

Dental Bridges

Bridges are made to replace missing teeth. These are made of the same materials as crowns and are a great proven, long-term replacement option. Bridges are only possible if there are good, healthy teeth on either side of the space to be restored, as these teeth are what support the artificial tooth or teeth between. Over the last couple decades, implants are becoming more and more the treatment of choice in replacement options, especially in the front where esthetics are a concern. Both replacement options have benefits and limitations. If you need a tooth replaced and are unsure which option is right for you, simply call for a FREE consultation, and we will gladly go over every option available so you can make the best decision possible.

Whitening and Philips Zoom

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a chemical process used to lighten the color of a patient’s teeth. Whitening procedures can greatly improve the brightness and overall appearance of teeth. Teeth can be whitened by several new techniques. Whitening can be accomplished in the dentist’s office or can be performed at home with materials provided by Affleck Dental. Achieve excellent results with Philips Zoom or custom tray whitening.

Dentures & Implants

Traditional Dental Implants and Mini Dental Implants (MDIs)

Although it isn't possible to cover the full spectrum of science and art-form behind dental implants, we believe having some education is important. We aim to build your confidence that there is no other place where you should schedule x-rays and a dental implant consult.

Here is why... Dr. Affleck has designed and implanted more dental prosthetics than any other dentist in Davis and Weber Counties and any other county in Utah, north of Ogden. We work with a team of oral surgeons at multiple locations to deliver the perfect denture and implant solution, with high success rates. You will work with multiple specialists who have worked closely together for years; working to deliver an optimal solution that will greatly reduce pain and inconvenience during the process and eliminate any discomfort when complete. Every implant must come with a prosthetic crown or denture. Which means a prosthetic specialist is necessary to ensure the best end result. Not only will your teeth look natural, but they will feel natural as well; due in part to Affleck Dental's "one size fits one," rather than "one size fits all" philosophy. We will select the right material, size and type of implant for your unique jaw and dental makeup. Whether it is a root-form implant, mini dental implant (MDIs), Blade Implant, Subperiosteal Implant, or Ramus Frame Implant, you can be confident that you will be given care that is second to none for your Denture-Implant package.

Partial and Full Dentures

At Affleck Dental you get a Dentist that is also a trained Denture Specialist, known as a Prosthodontist, without paying more. You may be surprised how affordable dentures can be. Dr. Affleck can help you understand your options at no cost before you decide to spend time and money replacing missing or damaged teeth. A no-risk, no obligation consultation is as easy as setting an appointment by calling or filling out the contact form

Fixed, Removable & Snap-on Dentures

Dentures that are fixed to your jaws by being anchored to natural teeth, natural roots or artificial implants, will get you extremely close to how you remember life with a full set of natural, healthy teeth. However removable dentures, while not as comfortable, are seen by some as a better option for maintaining oral hygiene; as it is considered to be easier. If you don't like to choose, there is a middle ground option as well. This third option si called "Snap-on Dentures," which allows you to have the benefits of both fixed and removable dentures. This snap-on option doesn't have to be expensive. It can consist of just two locator pins, like the denture picture on the far right that has the full artificial palate (palate = roof of the mouth). This is a life-changer for those who don't have the budget for an option that requires entirely new dentures and more implants, and want to remove the challenge of speaking that can come with "removable only" dentures. You also don't have to worry about the possibility of losing your dentures when you sneeze or laugh. Note as well the varying degree of artificial gums included in each option. As you put stronger materials into the teeth themselves and add more implants, it makes it less necessary to build strength into the titanium bridges, hidden in the gums. There are many other pros and const so consider as well, where 15 years of experience implanting thousands of dentures with varying circumstances, into thousands of mouths, can help you make the best choice.

At no cost to you, our certified prosthodontic specialist will advise you on the right prosthetic teeth and prosthetic roots for you. Just call or fill out this form for a no-risk, no-obligation consultation.

Sleep Apnea Appliances

Sleep Apnea Treatments

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a condition that causes disrupted sleep patterns and low blood oxygen levels. This is due to the tongue being sucked against the back of the throat while a person is sleeping, blocking the upper airway and stopping airflow.

When the oxygen level is too low, the person will awaken and clear their throat opening up the air flow of oxygen again. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons can help offer consultation and treatment options for treatment of mild to moderate sleep apnea.

Depending upon the specific symptoms and occlusion of a person’s teeth, Dr. Affleck will fabricate a variety of types of oral appliances to match up with a person’s needs.
