What led you to Dr. Affleck?
Dr. Mia — a dentist my mother had been seeing — decided to stop doing dentures and personally recommended Dr. Affleck to her. That professional referral was enough for me. If he was good enough for Dr. Mia to recommend, he was good enough for me.
Why did you need dentures?
I never took care of my teeth, and I was using crystal meth — which is especially damaging to teeth. They essentially rotted out. I’ve since quit using drugs completely, got out of debt, and found steady work with the IRS. Getting my teeth fixed was the next step forward.
What procedure did you have done?
I got the Snap4 — four mini implants on the lower arch with a brand-new lower plate, plus a completely new upper denture plate. My original uppers no longer fit because my gums had receded over time, so I needed both replaced.
What was the surgery like? Were you awake for it?
Not at all. I was given two small oral sedation pills — one an hour before, one when I arrived — and two local anesthetic shots during the procedure. I remember the shots, and then the next thing I knew I was waking up on my mom’s couch at home. They wheeled me out in a wheelchair. I was completely out.
Was there much pain during recovery?
No real pain — just tenderness. I stuck strictly to a soft food diet for the first month or so: boiled eggs, macaroni, things like that. After they put a soft liner on my lower plate once healing was further along, I had a lot more freedom. I’d say I was eating pretty much normally by April (my surgery was February 3rd).
What did the follow-up care look like?
Dr. Affleck’s team was thorough. They told me exactly what to expect at each stage, scheduled follow-ups proactively, and told me not to wait if anything felt off. I already have a follow-up scheduled for January. They also caught early on that I hadn’t been brushing my implants — something I didn’t realize I needed to do — and cleaned off the buildup. That kind of ongoing attention made a big difference.
What did it cost, and how does it compare to other options?
Before insurance, it was around $9,300. After my insurance contribution and a 5% cash-pay discount, I paid roughly $7,400 out of pocket for the full treatment. My brother went to a well known denture chain and paid about $6,000 — but for two implants instead of four, with no real follow-up care. His uppers are already not fitting well. When you factor in the quality of care, the follow-ups, and the lifetime adjustments that are included, Dr. Affleck’s value is in a completely different league.
Would you recommend Dr. Affleck?
Absolutely. The team laid out a plan that felt tailored to me, kept me informed every step of the way, and made sure I knew exactly what to expect. The whole experience — from the first consultation to recovery and beyond — gave me confidence that I was in the right hands. I can eat normally again. I’m not done yet with fine-tuning, but I have zero regrets.
